Vitamin C
Nobel Prize Laureate Linus Pauling professed the many benefits of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) to assist the body in recovering from illness. Ascorbic Acid is one of the most popular single vitamins and is often taken to treat colds and prevent illness by alleviating the body's normal response to stress. Scientifically controlled studies using Vitamin C for colds show that it can reduce the severity of symptoms, acting as a natural antihistamine.
Vitamin D
Vitamin D Deficiency Syndrome (VDDS) is found in patients with two or more of the following conditions: osteoporosis, heart disease, hypertension, autoimmune diseases, certain cancers, depression, chronic fatigue, or chronic pain. VDDS is more common among dark skinned races, the aged, and those who avoid the sun.
Sunlight, artificial light, oral or parental vitamin D, or a combination, aimed at restoring this vitamin is the treatment of choice. Controlled sunlight is the safest form of vitamin D repletion. Vitamin D3 cholecalciferol is the preferred form of oral vitamin D. |
